Particularly during the pandemic, the digitalization of processes and workflow steps that we normally perform manually or analog is an important step towards safer and more efficient work. Leading corporations and companies have the budget to develop individual software solutions from scratch and deploy them with the appropriate hardware solutions.

Companies that lack such financial resources and the know-how to implement technical solutions themselves often lag behind. One possible solution that could help such companies are so-called low-code platforms, such as the Microsoft PowerApps platform. With the help of Microsoft PowerApps, individual mobile applications can be developed without having to write a single line of code. For more complex applications, however, it is always possible to define your own connectors with the help of “Custom Connectors”, which in turn can also call up services developed in-house.

To demonstrate the possibilities of digitization using the Power Apps platform, we developed a mobile application for incoming deliveries. Especially for new employees, it can be a challenge to accept a large number of deliveries at the same time frequently during the day and to check the packages for correctness and especially for their condition. In addition, there is the effort of manually integrating the parcel information into the corresponding warehouse system or into the ERP used. The developed app helps the user to simplify these work steps.

As you can see from the images, the app supports the user step-by-step through the package acceptance process. During the parcel condition check, the user can also upload a photo of the parcel being checked. The user can then use his or her signature to verify the package information and the condition of the packages. After successful completion, the app sends the corresponding parcel information to our ERP system, where the parcel images and the signature, among other things, are stored and a corresponding incoming goods record is generated.

The app itself uses an individually configured flow with appropriately defined connectors that establish a connection to the ERP system as well as other systems.

This example shows that a practical solution using the PowerApps platform is possible and can also be used in business. If you are interested in developing solutions using the PowerApps platform, but don’t know how to get started, you are welcome to ask us for support. In joint workshops, we will introduce you to the PowerApps platform and show you methodologies for documenting and then digitizing specific work processes. Contact us for your individual offer.
